Solar

Solar power in a nutshell is the conversion of sunlight into electricity and there are two main ways in which we can harness this solar energy:

  • either directly using Photovoltaics (PV) which convert light into an electric current ie electricity
  • or indirectly using concentrated solar power systems which use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam – utilising this energy from the sun to heat water

Solar electrical power can be installed for self supply or export to the grid and requires Solar PV modules or panels; these versatile panels can be situated on rooftops, replace roof panels, provide wall cladding or even be freestanding.  Recently, costs to install have fallen dramatically and with an expected maintenance free life of over 20 years, Solar PV may be your preferred option especially as output from the panels will, in most cases, exceed your energy demand, generating income to offset the cost of your grid supply.

Solar water heating panels typically heat a domestic hot water system and can provide almost all of your average hot water supply during the summer months with an average of 50% all year round.

H&H Land and Property has an in-depth understanding of this type of renewable energy and can support you to make the most of your resource.  Our specialist Renewable Energy team will discuss through and advise on the potential of your site for solar power, through a full project management service which includes:

  • Feasibility Study and Assessment of the Energy Project Viability

  • Technology Appraisal

  • Full Planning Service

The recently introduced Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) for solar thermal could bring the payback of the installation down to below ten years which is very encouraging but to find out more, contact Alistair Fell, our Renewables Consultant via the office for a ‘no obligation’ chat on 01228 40626.
